Boost Confidence with your Eyelashes
If you reading this you are probably someone that doesn’t leave your house without mascara. Even women that rarely wear any makeup at all who I get in my makeup chair do wear mascara.
Because I have to use disposable spoolies for mascara applications for hygiene.
I always ask the ladies/models if they are carrying their own mascara.
If they do I prefer to use their own mascara, it’s just more convenient/ faster.
This way I get to try out a lot of different mascara, I will list them down below but first, let me talk about other ways you could get that confidence boost with your Eyelashes.
Eyelash Extensions Yay or Nay?
I do like Eyelash Extensions however, the way most women have them applied by their lash-extensions-stylist I do NOT like! Before the most recent lockdown, I went to my Lash Salon every two weeks.
I had a lash length number 9 and a curl C, most women go for length 16 and curl D, and pack it up full onto the whole lash line.
In my opinion and to my taste this does NOT work positively for anyone, especially on camera. Here is why:
So first of all it does not look natural, if you have been reading my blog I am all for natural beauty looks.
What happens if you pack your whole lash line, with long curled false lashes is you create a big black block. You don’t even see your eyeshadow application anymore and you don’t see your eyeliner.
This effect on camera is even more noticeable than with the human eyes. What I have experienced is that most women start out more naturally but get heavier and heavier the longer they have extensions.
It is a bit addictive in a way I guess, they get used to the looks of a more natural application and go stronger and stronger with time.
The stylists are also used to pack whole lash lines, make sure to make your wishes very clear.
I did walk out with a bit too many lashes I intended to because your eyes are closed the whole time of the treatment.
Mine fall out pretty fast (hence the two weekly appointments) so it was not the end of the world for me.
I do recommend everyone who is interested in extensions or already has them to not get carried away.
If you do like the length and the curl at least have more space between them so some skin is visible in between the lashes.
Extensions do give me that boost, I feel good walking out of the salon, if they are well done, it’s just so pretty. I do wonder if it is good for your lashes though.
My lashes got shorter and thinner after childbirth, this is why I got an extension in the first place.
My salon recommended me to have a break every now and then so when I did I was shocked at what was left of my own eyelashes. This was when I bought myself a grow serum.
Eyelash Grow Serum
If you are going to use eyelash serum, do some research. I had a doctor in my makeup chair tell me there are serums out there that DO change your eye color!
I am pretty sure you don’t want to have that happening, this can’t be healthy. Here in the Netherlands, they took these types of serums from the market but still do some research yourself. In my blog post Can I Transform my Eyelashes with Serum?
I share my research and there you can find my Top 4 Best Eyelash Serums. My lash salon tells me you have to make sure it does not contain hormones.
For me, a downside is that I have to think about applying the serum every day. I just keep forgetting that. So I went back to extensions until this last lockdown.
During the lockdown, all my lash extensions fall out so I gave grow serum another shot.
This time I really put myself to use it every day and I have to say, it is not working, but I think that’s because the serum I am using is already too old. What a bummer.
I did see it working on other women in my chair, it does work, I’ve seen it, it is amazing, it is more beautiful than extensions.
I should buy a new serum to really give it a fair chance but it is quite expensive. I didn’t buy it as of yet if I do I will write about it. Please let me know what your experience is with grow serum.
EyeLash Care
People donโt even consider they can condition their lashes, just like they do their hair, but how you may wonder.
Well ever since the ancient Egyptians word goes around that Castor Oil is good for hair growth, this goes for eyelashes too.
Last week I had a lady in my makeup chair that had amazing lashes, she was not even wearing mascara, as she never does. Castor Oil she said, any type of Castor Oil will do.
Castor oil is a vegetable oil pressed from castor beans, and it’s been around for centuries. It contains vitamin E, fatty acids, and minerals.
Although I have seen it with my own eyes and many stories go around castor oil and hair growth, there is no scientific proof that castor oil grows hair, yes I know that’s a bummer.
So there is only one thing to do if you want to know for yourself and that is to test it.
It doesn’t happen overnight, give it a month or 3 (at least 2 to 3 times a week).
Almond Oil is believed to be a nourishing oil that can soften and strengthen your hair and Vitamin E is believed to do both strengthen and grow.
A mixture of the 3 is considered a DIY Eyelash Serum, 3/4 Castor Oil. 1/8 Almond Oil. 1/8 Vitamin E Oil.
Mascara Primer
Next to nourish, strengthen and grow your lashes, you can get yourself a Mascara Primer.
Often they contain jojoba oil and soy proteins for some more nourishing and it will make sure your mascara stays on longer and it will make your lashes fuller.
I don’t see any reason why you would not use a primer if you want to boost your confidence with your Eyelashes.
I have listed good high end and budget options down below
The Best Mascara’s out there.
Last but not least Mascara. I don’t know a lot of women that can live without.
On the job, I get to test mascara all the time, due to being hygienic I always ask the lady in my chair if she carries her mascara with her so I don’t have the fuzz of using a disposable.
This is hands down the best mascara I have come across so far. Make-up Studio is a Dutch Makeup Brand for Professionals.
I don’t think you can get a hold of it in the States easily, so you take away exactly nothing with me saying this, I don’t even think they ship worldwide.
This is useless information, just had to be honest about my best mascara. The next option though wins: The viral Mabeline Sky High Mascara.
Sky High Mascara wins because it is very similar to the Make-up Studio Mascara False Lash Effect 4D but it is half the price and available around the world.
It does get your lashes high, the 200M views on TikTok did give it a bit of a high expectation, but I have to say it is good.
If you use this with a mascara primer, oh my gosh, you’ll be a happy girl.
This insanely cheap mascara totally caught me by surprise, it is pretty darn good and so so so cheap, I just couldn’t believe it.
This is what I use now on the job with my disposable spoolies. The other options perform well I think because of the combination formula+spoolie.
For use with a disposable, this formula is just perfect. As an artist, I have to get new mascara’s often so this price, hell yes!
This is the most expensive one I am listing, but it is a two-in-one. One for a natural look two for a more dramatic look.
I normally don’t go for waterproof but this is what the lady in my chair had on her.
I struggle to get off waterproof mascara so I don’t like that for myself. But obviously, on the job, I don’t have to take it off.
Not a lot of women take off the makeup after the show/shoot. There is a non-waterproof option but this is the one I tried. It is GOOD.
Both the more defining spoolie as the dramatic application.
It’s a treat, you’ll be happy with it I am certain.
With these crazy simple tips and tricks, you’ll get that confidence boost that long, strong, pretty eyelashes can give you. Cheers Mamacitas.
