Hi Amiga, a question I get a lot is if Pantene shampoo is Bad for your hair? The answer is NO, Pantene shampoo is NOT bad for your hair!
Roomer has it Pantene leaves a wax or a plastic layer of some sort on your hair. This is NOT actually true, I assure you! In this post, I explain why.

Why Pantene is NOT bad for your Hair
Ok, let me come on strong with this one right here. Ladies please, do you realize how BIG the company P&G is, that makes Pantene products?
Do you realize how many animals have died since the beginning of the invention of shampoo during animal testing, so we humans can safely use shampoos? Sorry to break it to you like this, but huh….. it is the ugly truth.
P&G is a multinational, just have a look at them on Wikipedia, it was founded in 1837 by two brothers-in-law and their father-in-law. Wow, they must have had pretty happy wives.
Today P&G manufactures products like Tide, Bounce, and Downy, Pampers, Bounty and Charmin, Always, Gillette and Venus, Head & Shoulders, Dawn and Febreeze, Crest, Oral-B, Vicks, Olay.
Do you really think they could distribute a product that is actually bad for your hair and skin and would cause hair loss even if they wanted to? And believe me, they do not!
Many years ago, back when I was a full-time hairdresser, I was asked to work at the biggest public household trade fair in my country. I was asked to work at a huge stand for a big drugstore shampoo brand Guhl, I already was in training at their headquarters.
All of a sudden someone came rushing into the training room, in a fairly panicky state, I could say, to stop stop stop everything we were doing.
All the hairdressers were asked to leave because the whole show including their big-ass beautiful stand at the trade fair was canceled.
This because they had to take back a certain batch of shampoo bottles out of the drugstores and supermarkets countrywide because something was wrong with this batch of shampoos.
I don’t even remember what was wrong with the shampoos, but I definitely remember it sure as hell wasn’t as bad as causing hair loss, I can tell ya that much.
I actually was there at the dutch head office of this huge shampoo brand and I experience at first hand the panic of this brand under a multinational company when the news hit that their products had to be taken off the shelves.
It was all over the news and they had to withdraw from the trade fair, losing money investing in it and losing sales in general from the stores and bad reputation. It was a downright disaster for them.
Please ladies just think about it, they do not want a bad formula on the shelves in stores all around the world.
Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act)
And then my sweet amiga’s, we have these bad boys! Do you really think that P&G, if they would have wanted to (which we all now know, they do NOT) could fool the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act)?
Besides P&G’s own research and testing in their huge-ass labs with actual chemists, the boys, and gals at FD&C Act run research and testings too.
In the Netherlands they are called De Nederlandse Voedsel en Warenautoriteit (NVWA) and I happen to do their makeup. Yes, I know right, this sounds unbelievable, but this huge government organization recently did some live sessions for internal communication.
These live sessions are produced pretty professionally including a makeup artist, me! I happen to have had the inspector general Dr. mr. G.J.C.M. (Gerard) Bakker in my makeup chair for the second time just this last Thursday.
Hahaha yes, I kid you not, true story. Obviously, I didn’t bother the inspector general with my silly shampoo questions, but everyone I had in my chair during these live sessions is an employee of the NVWA, so I had some chit-chats about the organization.
The Netherland is extremely strict in the regulation and rules. We are the country of the paracetamol doctors, ask any expat living in Holland, better yet, I’ll post a funny video about that here:
Paracetamol for everything, paracetamol when you break your leg, had a breast-reduction?: paracetamol (talking from experience on the latter). This is because of the strict regulation and rules we have in this country perceived by the NVWA.
So knowing I was going to write this blog post, I asked some nice lady employees of the organization about cosmetics. If a cosmetic product is really bad for your hair and skin causing hair loss and leaving plastic or waxy layers on the hairs it is NOT allowed to be sold in any country, with this you can trust your government.

I have Tested Pantene Shampoo for you
For this post, I bought a bottle of Pantene, turns out it is pretty hard to find in the Netherlands, who knew, but I did find it, it does sell here in Holland.
My bottle is almost finished and it’s just a pretty ok shampoo, it does what it has to do, it cleans your hair, so far so good. Another noticeable thing is I seem to have less dandruff.
Yes, I am one of the dandruff ladies among us since recently, oh lucky me, but I have to note that I can’t say with certainty that my reduction of dandruff is caused by the shampoo.
It wasn’t as cold so I didn’t have to put on my heating as much at home. Heating dries out skin like a b*tch, it really is very bad for your skin.
But like I said it’s a pretty good shampoo and now we also know it’s not bad for your hair, so I see no reason whatsoever why you won’t try out Pantene. Like every shampoo I came across within life, it doesn’t work miracles.
I got shampoo for fine flat hair because I do have fine flat hair ever since my pregnancy, I always recommend getting a shampoo that describes your hair type. It doesn’t miraculously give you volume and body, it can’t actually change your hair.
It just washes your hair really well, it foams nicely, smells wonderful and the price is good too. And come on Mamacita, we also don’t have to forget that our bodies and our hair are not made out of sugar, it won’t melt.
We blech it, which IS actually bad for your hair, scalp and skin, damages your hair, can even dissolve your hair and we still survive.
Hair is pretty damn awesome and can endure more than we think, we humans have hair to actually protect us, this is why mother nature gave us hair in the first place!
All the TV hosts in my makeup chair endure hot (300 to 400 Fahrenheit, 150 to 200 Celsius) irons every single day. This will damage your hair, this will give your breakage, and still, your hair will survive, it is constantly growing.
A shampoo is not going to ruin your hair, please believe me. Anyone who tells you differently is just not well informed or tells you this for different reasons, like ranking in google and getting clicks, or hairstylists.

Why do Hairstylists tell you Pantene Shampoo is not Good for your hair?
Well, we can be very short and simple about this one, because they want to sell you their products instead! While most stylists are very talented at cutting and styling hair, they’re not very talented at interpreting cosmetic formulations.
This is just really the way it is, we are not taught in hair school about cosmetic formulas. New shampoos are created by cosmetic chemists in the laboratory. You know chemistry, the science: proven knowledge only taught in Universities!
The truth is, Pantene’s shampoo and conditioner formulas are believed to be among the best in the industry by those in the cosmetic science side of the business. P&G has a huge research budget, certainly larger than any salon company.
Pantene’s Principal Scientist is Dr. Jeni Thomas seen on Pantene’s about-page at the end of the page at “Meet the people behind the Brand”
The Ingredients
Like I just said, hairstylists/ hairdressers are not very talented at interpreting cosmetic formulations, including myself. The website I really like for this is “The Beauty Brains, real Scientists answer your Beauty Questions”.

Is Pantene the Best Haircare Brand out there?
Although it is pretty good, and more importantly safe, it still is a drugstore haircare brand. So you can not expect it to be the best there is out there.
What shampoo is the Healthiest for your hair?
So what is the best haircare brand? Again this is very personal, but a brand I know is very good because I use to work with it in my own salon is Rene Furterer. Because I was their retail seller, I had all of their extensive training and received all their indebt product information.
They only work with pure essential oils and truly top-of-the-bill ingredients. It doesn’t get any better than this qualitywise, that I know of personally with certainty. Here are two of their cult classic shampoos that will not disappoint. Also, check out their store on Amazon.
Rene Furterer TRIPHASIC Strengthening Shampoo, Thinning Hair, Scalp Microcirculation, Men & Women
Rene Furterer VOLUMEA Volumizing Shampoo, Fine Limp Hair, Thickening, Volume Enhancing
A haircare brand I am literally dying to try out on my own hair is Kevin Murphy. I heard so many makeup artists and top hairstylists talk about this brand.
Plus I got to try some of my colleagues on the job, pretty good stuff. I really wish I could get my hands on the entire line for my hair type, but it is insanely expensive! Maybe one day.
Fairly speaking I can’t tell you if this is worth your money but I surely want to try out and tell you Mamitas!
Kevin Murphy Plumping Wash and Rinse for Thinning Hair Duo set
Kevin Murphy Angel Wash and Rinse for Fine Colored Hair Set
In this post, I have told you exactly why Pantene Shampoo is NOT Bad for your Hair. Cheers Mamacitas.
