Why would you want to substitute Eyelash Glue?
So to really understand this mystery I dove deep into this question.
Then it hit me, duh, of course, you are wondering: What can I use instead of Eyelash Glue? Because:
- Your dressed, hair done, makeup done, and then….. no glue…… what to do now?
- You are allergic,
- You have tried and tried, but you just can’t work with lash glue, it totally frustrates you,
- You can use lash glue well, you just hate doing it, you are looking for an easier way,
- Lash glue takes too long to dry.
Obviously, you need this, excuse my nerdy makeup artist brain, I can see it clearly now, let us go into the first dilemma.
Dressed, Hair done, Makeup done, no Glue
It’s date night or girl’s night (pre or post covid obviously), got your pretty dress on, curled your hair, foundation went absolutely smoothly, smashed out the best eyeshadow look in your personal record book, tonight is gonna be a good night!
You can’t wait for the final touch of your look, the crown on your masterpiece: LASHES…….. you are so excited!
You grab your favorite, freshly ordered falsies, and…..your breath stops for a second, NO GLUE…….
Damnnnn what now? What can I use instead of eyelash glue? Don’t panic, stay calm and breathe! I have the solution for you right here!
If you are the type of girl that recognizes herself in the picture I just painted, you certainly have the following products:
Your ass is saved girl, this is what you do next:
Note: Don’t use big ass heavy lashes, use a light, natural, short to medium-length strip lash. Individual lashes will not work with this method.
- Apply a thick layer of mascara on your lashes, don’t go and mascara the other eye now, focus, you have to work quickly.
- Before the mascara dries out, place your false lash where you want t have it. This works best with lash-tweezers but regular tweezer works too. Or fingers in worst-case scenario.
- Take your lash curler, this is just the best lash curler in the world but again any old plain curler will do the trick. Ok, maybe a bit more effort with a regular one. Press your fake lash into the wet mascara. It is going to be a bit tricky because your false lash could try to stick onto your curler and mascara is going to be all over the place. Be careful with your eyeshadow look. Make sure you help it stick to your natural mascara lash instead, with your fingers or better yet your tweezers. It’s gonna be a bit fiddly I’ve got to admit, but bear with me, this is an emergency, your night out is awaiting remember.
- Keep pressing lightly until it fully sticks to your mascara-natural-lash. This all has to happen before your mascara dries. You just rocked your eyeshadow look, so you can do this too. Let dry.
- Now apply another layer of mascara on both your natural and fake lash altogether,
- Now take a deep breath, a shot of tequila, and repeat on other eye. No that’s a joke, don’t have tequila before you left the front door.
You’ve made it, it wasn’t easy but hey, your lashes are ON, and, be assured they are not going anywhere! The dried mascara will hold your (light) lashes. Now go dance or lounge sipping drinks looking fab!
This method works if you are allergic to lash glue too. I’m sure if you practice this lots of times you will whip this up in a blink, in no time.
Definitely not an easy way, and let’s get real, pretty advanced, but hey practice makes perfect.
I do recommend getting the best tools you can get (listed above) if you are planning to use this method more often. Or consider your other options:
Allergic to Lash Glue
In my 25 years of doing makeup as a makeup artist, I have never come across someone who is allergic to lash glue.
If you are allergic to lash glue you most probably are allergic to latex and/ or formaldehyde. DUO Brush-On Lash Adhesive with Vitamins A, C & E, Clear is hypoallergenic and latex and formaldehyde-free.
Dual Magnetic Eyelashes
This is by far the easiest way to avoid lash glue altogether. These lashes click together on your natural lashes, it can never be as tight-fitting as with glue or even a magnetic eyeliner, but hey if you want to avoid glue then your golden.
This will always look better with an eyeliner, even a small thin one.
You won’t be seeing where the fake lash starts en ends because of the black liner, so also apply eyeliner with this method.
If glue frustrates you or you are looking for an easier way, this is for you.
Magnetic Eyeliner
Want to have your lash attached to your eyeliner, then this is it. This will most definitely be more tight-fitting than the lash above when applied correctly.
It is easier than glue. What can I use instead of Eyelash Glue? Try this option.
Lash Glue takes too long to dry
Lash glue does take a while to dry, that is why I am going to tell you the ultimate pro tip which is quite simple.
Apply a dot of glue on your mixing pallet or any other flat surface, 10 to 15 minutes before you need the glue.
This will make the glue nice and sticky. Grab the lash with your tweezers and run the strip carefully against the dot of glue.
I use the plain old-fashioned duo glue and this trick works like a charm.
I don’t have time to wait around for my glue to settle in tv/photo studios.
For 25 years I’ve been using this white glue that dries up transparent. Some artists prefer dark glue.
I use this for individual lashes too.
Don’t want to hassle with dots of glue?
Duo has a quick-drying glue that comes with an applicator for easy use and 30 seconds drying time.
Ardell Duo Adhesive
Ardell Duo Adhesive says they are the world’s best-selling lash adhesive and MUA fave for decades.
This is the actual truth, I have never seen another makeup artist ever, using another glue other than Duo for decades.
It is pretty darn good if you never used it and looking for a lash glue substitute landing you here on my site in this blog post, then my first and foremost professional advice and recommendation is to try out Duo first before trying any of the above suggestions.
When you are using false eyelashes your first concern in every single case of using them is that they stay ON! Especially in the professional aspect of it, obviously.
If the fake lashes let go of the skin in the inner or outer corner or come comes off altogether it’s BAD in every way.
It will be very embarrassing for you or the person you have applied the lashes to and should of course be avoided.
To avoid this with all certainty, there is no other solution than to use Ardell Duo Adhesive. Duo glue will stay on until you take them off and are waterproof.
Removing them is really easy, painless, and won’t damage your own eyelashes in any way. They have a lot of different options to choose from check the Duo Store on Amazon.

This will create a seamless bond between the lash extension and the natural lash.
Best for falsies lovers who want dependable fake lash glue. Get compliments for glam lashes like you are naturally born with it!
Eyelash Extensions
Another option is lash extensions. Glue is used to apply extension but it is totally different than removable lashes.
Some Mamacitas also get allergic reactions from this glue or even grow allergic to it over time however, it is an allergic reaction to totally different ingredients.
It pretty much is a totally different ballgame, any questions about this I would ask your local lash extension artist.
I love extensions when well applied, but I stopped with all the lockdowns, and it’s quite expensive. My natural lashes are pretty much ruined by it, but I still love it. Read my thoughts on lash extensions here.
Grow your own Lashes
Last but not least you have the option to grow your own lashes with serum or oils. I’ve tried this but I didn’t pull through, it is a long-term solution, but I kept forgetting to put it on daily.
I did see very pretty lashes grown on serum and oils in my makeup chair. So if you are not as forgetful as I am it is really worth the while.
