Eyebrows
First let me try to express how important brows really are, back in school, 20+ years ago, my teacher taught me that 80% of your makeup depends on your brows.
You could have the most amazing eyeshadow or killer cheekbones, if your brows are off, or look messy, 80% of the power of your makeup is lost.
So you better make sure your eyebrows are on fleek! It doesn’t really matter what is on-trend, I think 20 years later this statement is still going strong.
Rather your reading this for your own brows, or working as a makeup artist these are the basic guidelines for every brow you could think of. Let dive into it.
Eyebrow Shaping
Obviously, you need to know about shaping the eyebrows, no matter what is on-trend, thin brows or big bushy brows, these guidelines are always effective.
A. Never have the end of your brows go lower than line A because it will press down the entire look of your eye makeup.
It will give you a (de)pressing, sad look. Aligning it with the start of the brow to give it symmetry.
B. Your brows would really look “off” if you would go past line B, as it gives an unnatural appearance.
C. Have the curve of your eyebrow at line C to give the uplifting effect you are looking for.
D. If you would go past line D your eyebrow would just simply be too long.
You could conveniently use a pencil brush to guide you these lines.
Brow Products
Back in the days we just used an eyebrow pencil or powder, mostly being an eyeshadow in the right shade and hairspray to try to get them in place.
Compared to back then, today we are in brow heaven, we can get our hands on gels, dip brow pomade, soap brow, wax, everything you could dream of is out there to make our lives easier, from little mascara-like applicators to specially angled pencils.
What most brow products have in common is the tint/shades, most products are in the ash shades, lighter or darker.
They almost never have warmth to them, because a warm brown doesn’t look natural and it will look off or weird. You could use regular eyeshadow, just make sure the color is ashy, cool browns.
I have tried all of these products, what I just recently got is soap brows and I absolutely love it, just for the simple reason that the brows actually stay in shape, it works better than anything else, you could just use regular transparent soap. (update: My new wanna have brow product is Brow Freeze from Anastacia Beverly Hills)
I would suggest you just go and try out all of these products, start with an affordable brand if you’re on a budget if you love a certain type of product (gel, brow-pomade) start looking for high-end brands.
By far the most popular must be Anastasia Beverly Hills if you are a Beauty lover you most certainly know it, it is high quality and would be a treat for every woman, I wish I had all shades of their Dipbrow Pomade I would highly recommend it.
I love it the most with an eyeliner pencil brush, drawing fine hairs into the brows after you have shaped them with soap brows using a little water or All Nighter Setting Spray.
However, if you don’t have time on set, to make your most beloved brows with soap and drawing fine lines, I use a brow powder like THIS.
As been said, the only way to find out what your favorite brow product is is to try it out and it’s a lot of fun too.
Eyebrow Care
This is something I know a lot of women are struggling with, how to keep them from going wild.
I am going to recommend visiting a Brow Bar, even if it’s only for one time, obviously, it would be great if a Brow Bar would maintain your brows but not everyone can afford that.
In that case, have a one-time appointment, have them advise you well and after that have tweezers next to your toothbrush and check for little hairs every day, this way you can keep the wonderful shape the brow bar provided you with for a long time, I guaranty you this.
Remember 80% of your makeup is depending on your brows, treat yourself girl and get those amazing brows a brow bar will give you.
If you don’t want to go to a brow bar or if you have let them grow wild just a bit too much.
You could always plug your own eyebrows, it’s not that scary, just give it a go, stay in the A B C D area and you will be safe.
Unfortunately on set, we can not plug eyebrows because the skin gets too red to film or photograph afterward.
If you are having a Beauty (Marco) shoot, you have to contact the model in advance to “arrange” her brow situation, or have someone of production short it out for you,
I would meet her to do her brows myself, advise a brow bar or have her shape it herself if she is able to before the day of the shoot.
This is very important!
Here is a great video by Lisa Eldridge doing a pretty good Brow application.
Now you know all the guidelines you need to create the best brows you can get, for yourself or your models. Cheers Mamacitas.
